A Peninsula of Paradise in Pass-A-Grille

Pass-A-Grille!  What a unique beach community!  Located at the southernmost tip of Pinellas County, it is a peace of paradise and a vacation haven for locals and tourists alike.  Although Pass-A-Grille belongs to the St Pete Beach municipality, it feels like a separate little town with a culture of it’s own.

 

A unique aspect of this community is that it suits a number of beach-going lifestyles.  Oceanfront dwellers of single family or condominium homes enjoy direct beach access and stunning sunset views. There are also rental options among many condominiums and vacation homes.  If you like boating or fishing, there is a number of homes with docks located on intracoastal waters.  And for those who desire to live in this historic community but have a limited budget, there are options available between the coasts without direct water access or views.  No worries – you can walk to the water in less than a minute.

Many Gulf-front homes and hotels on Pass-A-Grille are separated from the beach by Gulf Way, which you won’t see on any other barrier island in Tampa Bay.  This gives you an unobstructed view of the water while you ride along the load.  Parking meters are conveniently located along the road and accept change and credit cards.  There are public pavilions with bathrooms and snack bars.  Additionally, there are tennis courts, a public park, and even a baseball field.  Pass-A-Grille Marina offers boat storage for those who do not have a personal boat dock.

Dining options are plentiful.   The many options include the popular Hurricane Restaurant with a rooftop bar, the elegant Black Palm on 8th Ave, and the Brass Monkey on Gulf Way.   These and other restaurants provide a variety of cuisines for the curious tourist or experienced foodie.  Oh, and don’t forget Sea Horse Cafe on Pass-A-Grille Way which serves an awesome pancake breakfast.  Across from Sea Horse is a fishing dock from which you can also take a ferry to nearby Shell Key.

Pass-A-Grille is a draw for history buffs, too.   Some of Pinellas County’s oldest homes are located here.   In fact, the first permanent resident homesteaded here in 1886 and there are still houses that are over 100 years old.   This area is popular among artists and boaters (direct access to Gulf and no draw bridges to wait for) so the home prices here are often higher in comparison to other beach areas.

The white sandy beach of Pass-A-Grille is absolutely beautiful.  Not too wide or narrow – but just right.   A bounty of sea oats, sea grapes, and beach grasses give it a lovely natural look.
