St Pete Pier Design Options

What will the new St Pete Pier look like?

One of proposed Pier designes

The news about the total restructure of St Pete Pier is no longer news.  We’ve all been hearing for a while about this plan and possible architectural ideas of what the future Pier should look like.  Not too long ago we’ve written a post about the Pier and today there was an interesting article on ilovetheburg.com about the design contest.

Ilovetheburg.com writes: “The three architectural firms, selected from a field of nine diverse semi finalists yesterday are Michael Maltzan Architecture, West 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture, and BIG.

Old St Pete Pier

All the designs offer some highly interesting options to the iconic St. Petersburg Pier that you can view in person at the St. Petersburg Museum of History starting December 6th. The exhibit is free and open to the public until Dec. 30. Viewers are encouraged to vote for their
favorite..”

  1. Why not restore the origional pier as it was when first built using most of the exisiting structure that is safe. This would be attractive to more people than some far fetched ultra-modern design. People come to St Pete for the weather and enjoy the parks and what is left of historic venue’s. Look at Pass-a-grille, Fort Desoto, Bay Pines and other historic places in Pinellas county. I was born and raised in St Pete, Have seen the pier with the old building, when it was a park and now with the inverted triangle concept. The last was somewhat of a flop. Historic flavor would more than likely work. PUT IT TO A VOTE thanks
